Sun Poem

This week in Room 5 we are writing a sun poem. It is really fun.

The sun is a ball of fire 
burning in the sky 
It is an oven 
sizzling in the day light.

The sun is a ball on fire 
boiling in space. 
It is a BBQ 
cooking steak for dinner.

The sun is a yellow ham ball on fire
It is cooking people slow like a snail 
and cracking their skin.

How to make a:

How to make an Eel hand line

You need 50 pound braided line, normal line, a swivel, heavy sinkers, hand casters and small hooks.

The goal is to catch Eels with the hand line and teach you how to make this.

1. You first need to get the hand caster out of the packet and wrap the normal line around the hand caster.

2. Put the sinker on the line and tie the swivel onto the line.

3. Tie about 15 cm of the 50 pound braid on the other side of the swivel.

4. Tie the hook on the 50 pound braid.

5. You can attach a handle on to the hand caster.

6. Go to a creek were there are eels and put some raw meat on the hook and drape the hand line next to a bank were there aren't strong currents.

7. You should catch something if you do you can eat it, keep it as bait or release it. It can be used for other fishing like saltwater.

Fair Project

This Term in Room 5 we are doing projects for the school fair. Liam, Harrison and I are doing bottle fish traps they come with some line attached to them.  They will be $2.50  if you want to get some.  The work for catching shrimp, baby eels, sprats and little fish . All we need to make them with is a plastic bottle, some fishing line and a knife.

Fish Cake

For writing in Room 5 we are doing recipes. My recipe is a fish cake. The recipe has black pepper they look nice if you like fish. They look like this.

How to make Fish cake

Ingredients

Potatoes

Spring onions

Fish-snapper is good

Black pepper

eggs

1.get some potatoes and then take off the skin and boil them. Then mash them.

2. put the fish in spring onions and put milk in a shallow dish. Dran the fish and spring onions gently mix the potatoes avoiding breaking up the fish to much.

3. Along with the sweet corn chetorer and a generous grind of a little bit of black pepper into 6-8 patties. Pour egg on the plate and flower on the other dish. Dip the patties in the egg and then  put the patties in the fridge for about half an hour.

4.lower it onto a pan and cook for 5-7 min until the bottom is golden and heat it all the way through.

For Pūmanawa i am doing cartooning with Mrs Drummond and Mr Drummond we had to pick two animals and draw mix and draw them. My one was a Monkey and lion his name was Lunkey.
It was really fun.

This year me, Liam and Harrison did pixel fish. our first fish was an king fish. We are going to show them to the class we have done 6 pixel fish. We coped a real king fish.

Egg keeping

This term we did egg sitting, my egg was called Eddie. The point of this was to see how hard  it is to keep a child alive it was part of keeping our self safe. it was really fun we had to take it every were if not we had to find a baby sitter to look after it.

Maori art

For art this term we are doing Maori art. We had to choose a Maori photo. So I choose the moon so I cooped the face and added the mountains for a background. 

Science Project

On Friday and Monday we did a project.  there were four options of bark, 
and, cotton balls and paper tows.

Me and Liam m got the best in the glass Matthew and Liam tp got second best in the class.

chess

Chess on Tuesday term 2 I went to a chess tournament it was really fun. I got 2 and a half points so I won 2 games and got a draw there is a table that you half to sit at.

New playground

At school a new playground is getting built. it has new red monkey bars and a climbing wall, it has great equipment.

On science week we had some people come in to show the year 6-4 some science. one of my favourite parts was when they got a hot can and put it in cold water the when they toke it out of the water it was scrunched up into A ball.

 

Bro shores

This term we did bro shores about ANZAC day we had to pick A picture. Me and Harrison picked the picture about Vincent John Baird Hall. It was really fun.

  

country study

For Term 2 we did a country study we could choose a country and study it, I chose Scotland. We had to pick five towns and mark them on the map and we got a pitcher of the worlds map and mark our country on the map. After we were done we had to colour it in. It was really fun.

Room 5's assembly

Last week it was Room 5's  Assembly. We did a play (My granddad marchers on Anzac day), I was A marcher and I played the trumpet wale marching. Then we did A song. My Favourite was the play.

shove Tuesday

In the morning we burnt palms for Ash Wednesday. Then in the afternoon Room 5 came into Room 1 and we made pancakes. They were really nice.

Battleship

This week in room 5 we did some poems and two people did two poems. I did a ship and it was really fun. And my friends did the ship too. The poems are going to another school in New Zealand.

The warriors have found the Dungeon were the plans are. The year is 100,000,000,000,000,021 BC, the leader is Fire Goblin he is 10cm his weakness waves and sharksie weapons are fire and sword that shoots out lighting. His abilities are speed, can go into small places and he doesn't get heart in fire or lightning he’s mean but smart.
The other warriors are Author the Dwarf, Sarason the Warrior, Littlejane the Hobbit and Touchfire the wizard. “We need to get some food now!” said Fire Goblin
“Ok but were?” said Author the Dwarf
“Then follow me.” Said Fire Goblin
They go to the food store
“Ok we have the food now how to get out?” said Littlejane the Hobbit
“Go get the guard in the empty room Sarason the Warrior!” said Fire Goblin

Growth Mindset

In Room 5 we are doing Growth Mindset, a growth mindset is when you think that you can't do something you say I can't do this YET Yet is a grate word for a growth mindset. Inst ed of saying "that person is way better at me" you say "I can get as good at that person by practise" if you say you're bad at something you're having a fixed mindset and fixed mindset it not good so you want a growth mind set.

puberty talk

The year 6 boys had a puberty talk this week and learnt we grow beards and moustaches and you will sweat more and you need exercise and more food, sleep, 2/3 litres of water because you get more hungry and burn out all the energy from the food.

I enjoyed the talk because I learnt the changes

Room 5 treaty

This week we signed the Room 5 treaty. We had to read the treaty then we needed to write our names at the bottom. Mrs Drummond got table by table to sign the treaty. Two of the promises were:-
we will take care of our classroom and keep it tidy
we will show the Good Shepherd values.

This year for reading there's a website for Reading it’s called epic.


You can read many books and it can read to you and you can watch videos it recommends books for you, but you don’t need to read them. But you can choose your book to read from the website if you want.

year 6 camp

My favourite activity was sailing because you get to steer the boat and hold the sail ropes.

On the last day at camp we went on to the rocks and I picked up crabs. Crabs like this.
It was that big!
The talent show was really fun. Me and Sanjay did failing Knuckle bones.

We played spot light in the park and I saw a possum hiding in a tree. Me and my friends decided not to hide by the possum.

  

Puzzle piece

This week in room 5 we did a puzzle piece. where we need to write our name and colour it. We had to decorate it and draw pictures about us. We stuck all of the class’s pieces on the window it was really fun.
